But, if AA already has somehow considered the eVIP used, then, yes, there shouldn't be anything to "pull". Perhaps I wrongly assumed that the eVIP wasn't considered used until I actually checked in for the flight, and, uh, used it.

I'm going to chime in on your side here. In a number of instances, even wth eVIPs that have long cleared...there's a lot of extra typing and mimblings about cert numbers. I would imagine a partner might not deal well with this.
