As for the 290-300 fare you found, if that's inclusive of taxes & if its on the dates you want (during Thanksgiving? I'm making that assumption from your TravelBuzz thread - which is what I believe Fiumicino is referring to) and you feel comfortable paying it, then I think its a fine fare.
Generally, transcontinental fares start around 220 inclusive of taxes unless there's a fare sale going on. If you're getting 290-300 fares for Thanksgiving, I would suggest booking it - if the flights go down in price for your same flights, most airlines will issue you a credit for the difference for the EXACT same flights. However, if the prices go up, you don't have to pay additional fares...that said, 300 for a transcontinental Thanksgiving fare isn't too bad.
