I had the same experience this month. Took a CRJ-100/200 YVR-YXE with the old green seats, that must have been one of my most uncomfortable flights ever. I could feel nothing but the metal as my seat back. All the cushioning seems to have gone - for 2 hours!
A couple days later I flew on a new CRJ 100/200 with the new leather seat YXE-YYC.
Great seats, really comfortable and I wished I had that aircraft on my outbound for the 2 hours instead of the 50 minutes flight to YYC.
Also flew the new CRJ-705 YVR-YEG 2 weeks ago, but no IFE yet, just the sticker with info that it's coming soon.
Very nice and quiet aircraft, I was in the first row of Y class, and windows are higher, don't get that neck pain anymore trying to look outside
