My employer heavily supports taking professional exams. They pay $500 per exam for CPCU (Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter) and $2,500 for finishing the series of 8. Some of the individual exam bonuses got squandered on jewelry (my other vice) but the bonus for the last one and completing the series went towards a trip to Scotland.
Ah, I remember my mom studying for the CPCU exams back in the 70's. I think it took her 3 or 4 years to go through the whole shebang.
