I don't know if this is still true, but several years ago I had to make a connection in PEK to go to Mongolia. Had to go through passport control, check in to my connecting flight, then go through passport control again.
Seems like a Chinese regulation that any transit passengers has to get through border control.
Anyone else can remark if this has changed?
