Also don't do what I have done 3 times now and overestimate the time it takes to get from Manhattan at that time of the morning. Every time I have arrived at 5.30am for check-in which doesn't open until 6.10 (SSCI) and 6.15 (desks).
The only good thing about getting there first is that I have been first into the F lounge (no CCR for the morning flight) and always anjoyed a glass of freshly opened champagne (good stuff, too) with my smoked salmon & cream cheese bagel!
Yes, fast-track security is open - in fact the only difference is the lack of CCR.
