It's because the clocks went forward this morning. Some flights then show as leaving twice in one day with the same flight number. The Z is to differentiate between the two.
That makes a lot of sense!
I was at IAD on Sunday and noticed the BA217 landing at about 1pm. Thought it was pretty odd that it was an hour early.
