I will agree with you 100% when the choice is simply of who to downgrade from those who received an aerolotto u/g from cheap fares within the 2/4/7 day windows. There can be no question that SE's get the first priority followed by E and P status. But I strongly maintain that there will be a group of u/gded pax who will have already gotten a confirmed "I" seat ahead of the 2/4/7 day windows precisely because they paid extra for a Y/M fare to do that. And that should take priority over status if the a/c is changed - after all, this is only maintaining the policy that AC themselves puts fare paid over AP status for bagging the "I" inventory prior to the 2/4/7 windows. So some consistency is all that is required.

Clipper801 used the word "windfall" to describe the situation of an SE able to bump an already confirmed u/gded pax and I think you should be gracious enough to admit that is all this situation is - a windfall. Personally I would not be happy with compensation for being bumped, my preference is AC changes this u/g anomaly and puts priority to those who already had got a J seat confirmation and would still be there but for an a/c change completely outside of their control.
