I understand. If the flight doesn't book up with revenue passengers (unlikely since most F9 flights in/out of LGA are very full), you might be able to find an award seat open up.
But on second thought, if the flight isn't too full, maybe you can buy a cheap ticket? Then you can save the miles for another possible trip when fares are much higher.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. It seems the flight isn't even really booked, except for the award seats, which really is frustrating.
