Was wondering specifically about buying from a grocery/food wholesaler or distributor. Will they do a one-time sale to somebody off the street?
As long as you are eligible to buy at wholesale, food suppliers who serve restaurants usually will sell to you no matter who you are (though they normally won't deliver in those situations), but those who serve grocers will not; they usually only deal with contracted customers. The problem with the restaurant suppliers is that their products normally don't have retail packaging, so things like coupons, POPs, etc. are not going to be there.

The owner of a smaller independent supermarket might be willing to cut you a deal and sell it for less than the usual markup since there wouldn't be labor in shelving it, but grocery margins are notoriously slim.
