Houston has really high taxes for car rentals, and the IAH fee adds another 10-20% on top of the cost. I know I'm stuck with the 50% base tax, but would like to skip the airport usage tax. I'm wondering if there are any convenient off-airport car rental places. On Orbitz, only EZ rental shows up, and while I had an okay experience with them, I would prefer not to use them again as they were severely understaffed, leading to an ~1 hr turnaround time when I returned the car. I seem to remember several of the airport hotels were close to rental companies like Thrifty or Dollar. Would these count as off-airport companies, and how do the rates compare?
