... and that process is a bit more cumbersome when applying outside your home country. An extra form needs to be filled out and will be faxed to the Indian consulate in your home country, to inquire about hindrances for visa issuance. Assuming your friend applies in NZ and is not a NZ citizen, this adds a few days to processing time.
