Yeah, RI's are real hit and miss in my experience. Some of the new ones are very nice. I stayed at a new one in Kansas City that was spotless. Check out my post on the Santa Fe RI for the other side of the coin
You make a good point regarding Platinums though. At the Courtyard and FS properties you just seem to get a warmer welcome as a Plat. This isn't true of all of course but in general i have to concur.
