I live in Carmel and go down to Big Sur a lot. I love staying at Deetjen's and the restaurant there is excellent. You'll love it. Don't miss the baths at Esalen! Unless you're planning to go in the middle of the night, you can book a massage there and then enjoy the baths as part of the experience.
