My bag and I arrived SFO at 10:00 am. I had occasion to cruise by baggage claim around 40 minutes later and it had been set aside behind a tens-a-barrier. When I went back to claim it around 5:00, it was still behind the same tens-a-barrier with most of the other luggage that had been there in the morning. Perhaps luggage stored for much longer periods is kept in the cages.

Very convenient complimentary baggage storage service! Unfortunately, a plastic bottle of European hotel conditioner in my case had cracked. Perhaps that can be chalked up to the TSA inspection and poor container design.
