On a recent flight during the repeated announcements while boarding, the very professional and courteous FA said "if you can't lift your carryon into the overhead bin and if it doesn't fit underneath the seat in front of you, then it's no longer a carryon and it must be checked".
I've never heard it stated quite this way before.
