It's interesting. When AA employees discuss their salaries compared to people in other industries, they never value the flight benefit as anything ("I make less than a nurse, but I have to know how to operate a defibrillator!"). When those flight benefits are harder to obtain, then they are "a reason that I took a job at a lesser salary". I'm not talking about everybody, of course, but with some, I do notice it.
