Yes, I remember taking the ferry in a luxury compartment on Silja as a kid. Very high up on the ferry with a nice view. But the budget traveller below car deck is going to be a nasty experience. I remember the really budget folks just took seats in a large cabin the size of a movie theatre.

The fact that they have a large brig on the ferry tells you something...... And Viking also is known to have violent psychopath security guards. I think they beat up a Finnish kid a few years ago who was found dead in the brig.
