I've been to the ORD RCC in terminal C and they didn't even have carrots. The IAD RCCs are OK, but nothing to write home about. And you're right--I took advice from FT last week in Tokyo and trekked down to the Singapore Silver Kris lounge after spending a few minues at the RCC (a bigger version of the IAD clubs with booze and showers and even fewer snacks)--a different world!
Well, the SFO club still isn't an int'l airline club, but for those like myself who appreciate snacks, it can be pretty good--the last time I was there, they had out veggies, fruit, and multiple varities of crackers and cheese, chips, and cookies. They also have a bigger and better-staffed-than-average concierge desk for rebookings and whatnot. Basically the advantage is that since there is only one central club at SFO for domestic flights, unlike at ORD and IAD, they can afford to reap some economies of scale and make it nicer rather than having to spread out across several clubs. The disadvantage is that there is consequently no chance of one location being the "quiet club" as with the D-concourse club at IAD.
