incidentally, if you have a "side trip" on the same ticket as a US/Canadian one (e.g. YVR-HKG, then HKG-NRT-HKG on a later date, then HKG-YVR), you'll get CX's significantly higher US/Canada luggage allowance on the side trip as well.
