Just checked in for my trip. Agent told me that if you are connecting to an international carrier allowing 70 pounds, then AA will allow you to check 70 pounds.

Bummer. Spent an hour rearranging junk to meet the 50 lb AA requirement.

Go figure. And YYMV.
