BUENOS AIRES may well have direct flights from the Middle East by this
time next year. Emirates has made serious noises that it would like to
introduce direct services, either non-stop which would mean a 17/18
hour flight, or via South Africa with fifth freedom operations.
Negotiations are said to be going on with the SA authorities who would
appear to be concerned that a similar scenario might emerge to that of
Australia/New Zealand where Emirates are allowed to originate
passengers at both ends of the Tasman Sea crossing, much to the
concern of both Qantas and Air New Zealand.
