AFAIK, you must actually RENT a car 1 time to activate the GOLD account.
AFAIK, you CAN use the gold counter in MCO as your FIRST rental, you just wont be able to walk directly to the car and find your rental agreement waiting for you.
i rarely have ever seen a line at the gold counter of most locations i frequent.
