Kickbacks

How about this at our NYC hotel...we had the bellman take the bags from storage in the lobby downstairs (gave tip)...he hands our luggage to the head bellman to hail us a cab to JFK and put our bags in the trunk (guess what, another tip). We asked the bellman how much it costs to JFK...he tells us that its only $50 to JFK incl tolls, so we get into the cab. A few blocks out, the driver tells us the Van Wyck is under construction and doesn't know how long it might take to get to JFK with the metered rate but can take shortcuts for $60+. We thought we were being had, so we argued with the cabbie to let us out but he wouldn't...he insisted he had to take us back to hotel...it took about 15 minutes just to circle a few blocks...why? to collect the $5 kickback the bellman got for hailing us his cab.
