Yes, AA is quite slow when it comes to reissuing tickets. It can take days/weeks. I believe it's queued and likely prioritized by date of travel... it can be kind of annoying, but I know of no way to speed the process up, so you'll just have to wait.

You can also check to see if your ticket has been reissued by entering your original ticket number in the 'Check Refund Status' of the AA Refunds site. If the ticket has been exchanged/reissued, it'll be noted in the ticket.
