Yes. AA is quite strict with the 50 pound limit per bag (and the USD 25 fee if over 50 but under 70 pounds). The computer enforces collecting the fee making it harder for agents to give you an exemption. You can have 2x50 lb bags, plus a carryon (that could take the missing 40 lbs), and then repack prior to the CX checkin, I suppose.
