Probably Just A Boiler Plate Data Entry Process

While all the airlines would like you to believe there is some committee or such deciding on these comps, they merely could probably have a temp in the service center who reviews these faxes with a chart on their cube wall, and data enters them in to UA's computer system. If the chart does not show Air France which it probably doesn't, the temp probably has a radio button they pick for "other" that generates the form letter you got.

I think in 90% of status comps it is merely a data entry exercise. They are not really considering you individually, just following a template type procedure on what airlines levels comp to what. It could even probably be done through a computer if they had good enough OCR to read the faxes. For instance if on 2/28/07 I faxed in my Onepass Plat showing no activity, they would probably comp it just because its Plat even though no activity. This way they can hire someone at a very low wage to do this job, as opposed to having to hire someone who would have to alanyze each traveles patterns, etc. And if someone never uses the comp, it really doesn't cost UA much if anything.

If you bump it up a level, probably the other 10% of comps are done with some thought put in to the business the person might bring, etc.
