Look at the signs at the check-in counter. As many people have already pointed out, *S is worth almost nothing on most arilines to that respect.

Exceptions seem to be LH (for FTL) and UA (who had the business class counter open for *S and the F/C counter open for *G).

Most other airlines allow the use of the business class counter for *G (LH, UA: F/C).

It's always indicated by signs on the counter.

Also, on a side note: the extra baggage allowance for FTL does only apply to LH. I've once checked into an ANA codeshare flight from FRA with LH flight number as FTL and was asked to hand over 700 Euro ("if you were *G, it would be no problem"). Be careful!
