OT: Please educate me. Blanc de Blancs versus ‘classic’ champagne.

Does anybody have any thoughts on this? (Who am I kidding! This is the BA board. Of COURSE you have thoughts on champagne!!!)

I’ve just returned from France where I bought plenty of Prosecco to make lots of Bellinis. MrLapLap, however, insisted on a crate of champagne so we could make the traditional ‘champagne toast’ at our reception. The only affordable champagne I really like, Gosset, wasn’t available anywhere (I’m not a fan of Lanson, Mumm or Moet & Chandon) so we spoke to a nice man* who recommended we try De Blemond Premier Crus Blanc de Blancs (non vintage – and no mention of a year on the bottles) from the Cuis area.

From what I understand, we’ve bought a load of bubbly chardonnay. However, I was wondering if anybody had an opinion on Blanc de Blancs, especially non-vintage ones (I'm sure Krug's Clos du Mesnil is VERY nice, but this is hardly in the same playing field)

(*Haven’t dismissed the possibility that he wasn't such a nice man after all and saw in us an opportunity to clear the shelves of an unloved and unwanted product )
