A couple of comments about the Park Hyatt Tokyo I forgot. First, there has been complaints about the Diamond breakfast. Expecting the worst we somehow enjoyed the breakfast. The best part was you actually get to enjoy it in your room which is unusual for a diamond breakfast. I am not a big continental fan but the pastries are served in the room piping hot as they pull them out of an large metal warmer attached under the room service table. Coffee and tea service were amble. It just felt like a nice experience but I can see where maybe people would grow tired of it after a while. And most importantly it also saved lots of room for lunch at the NY Grill. I wonder if Hyatt missed out by not giving people credit for breakfast where coffee itself can cost $10. I suppose there would be too many Europeans actually eating just the continantal breakfast and not adding on.
Second, something that made me feel uncomfortable is the whole tipping thing. I know Japanese never tip but there just seemed like so many situations in the hotel where I felt I was suppose to tip but I didn't. At certain times it felt very awkward. Like Americans are held to different standards than Japanese.
On one of my stays at the Grand Hyatt, I actually tried to tip the bellman, who refused the tip and said firmly "No tipping - you are in Japan". Frankly, this is one of the reasons why I enjoy my stays in Japan so much. There are some instances where you are expected to tip - in a ryokan, for example, you are supposed to give some additional money at the end of your stay to your hostess. And I round up taxi fares a bit. But apart from that, it is one of the few places where I don't always have to worry about "am I tipping too much or too little".
