A Gold cardholder, whose name and place of boarding shall remain nameless, raised an objection to showing his boarding card to the crew on embarkation - whether he had had one too many in the lounge is uncertain - but it was sufficient for the Purser to warn him that it was a CAA requirement and that unless the Boarding Card was produced he would have to return to the Gate Lounge.

Reluctantly, and with a good deal of muttering and swearing, the said document was produced and he was permitted to take his seat.

He then proceeded to travel on the 2 hour flight continually scowling at the crew, deliberately tripping crew members up as they walked down the aisle (at least 10 occasions, allegedly) and giving "dumb insolence" (ie When asked a question like "Red or White Wine, sir?" just failing to respond).

On landing, the purser wrote a report into the incidents, citing the rest of the crew as injured parties and witnesses, and this report was fed back to the Executive Club. On checking, 48 hours after the incident, this customer had lost all Executive Club status and all his mileage and tier points! Presumably, the EC would have written to the passenger explaining why this had happened but I was very surprised at the speed at which the decision had been made!!!
Not to doubt the authenticity of the story about the passengers behaviour, is anyone else worried that an extension of this attitude towards problem resolution is now prevalent in the US, where a simple complaint about poor crew or service sometimes results in a "we'll write you up" mentality or even worse, a "we'll report you to the authorities" mentality.

Some people would do well to remember that despite us being blessed with BAngels on FT, that there are some other types of BA crew that can be very nasty to run into...
