i speak as a resident, not officially.
there is good communication and it is generally easy to get answers here. this is a very small community, and the communications needs and systems are unlike the mainland.
if you had called the police department or county roads, i believe you would have gotten a correct answer. the fact that your hotelier didn't have the wherewithal to do so is another matter.
