Nothing was missed. I think the point being communicated was that the persons who will get nailed by this the most are SEs.

So if we check-in online at c. 23-24 hours before flight and no one has paid up for a desirable seat, then it's first come first serve for all remaining coach seats including what is classified as "Choice" seats before check-in?
