Even if a PE and GE sit upfront "most" of the time, this change is insulting and carries the message that "we don't care about our best customers that much." When management is willing to trade years of good-will for projections of a marginal increase in revenue, you know you're in trouble.

Nothing was missed. I think the point being communicated was that the persons who will get nailed by this the most are SEs.
So if we check-in online at c. 23-24 hours before flight and no one has paid up for a desirable seat, then it's first come first serve for all remaining coach seats including what is classified as "Choice" seats before check-in?
