However, the ambiguous wording does make me a bit angry:

Well, we all got an email about it yesterday morning too, right? I think that went out to all NW WP members. No? Everybody who gets e-mail from NW should have seen both/either that email ro the one you mention at this point. I don't think that the anger is limited to FTers, but rather the vast majority of the flying public is privately complaining/steaming/making their travel plans elsewhere.
I particularly think this will drive off Joe Sixpack who gets one bad impression/experience on an airline and swears off of them forever. I have Aunts and Uncles that refuse to fly on CO for some reason I can't quite place and my sister said she avoids CO because once they were oversold and wanted asked her to volunteer for a bump.

In any event, I think that mom & pop once a year flyer will encounter this when they try to book on NW and will take more of their future business elsewhere. I can hear my Aunt Lois now "well, the airfare on orbitz says $300, but it'll really be $350 or $400 or something since northwest charges you $15 extra for each seat" -- whether or not (not) that's true or correct, that's how I witness non-frequent flyers make their travelling decisions all the time. NW is going to take a hit because of it and there's no metric to measure the reason for them.
