Narrative: UPDATE TSB reported that the Airbus A320-211, registration C-FFWM operated by Air Canada as flight ACA 143, was cruising en route from Ottawa to Edmonton when the crew received a compressor vane message followed by a #1 engine compressor stall warning. The crew carried out checklist procedures, shut down the engine, declared an emergency, and requested diversion to Winnipeg. The flight landed without further incident. Company maintenance inspected the engine (CFM-56-5A1 s/n 731672) and found compressor shroud rub at the third stage variable stator vane (VSV) location. The engine is being removed and will be sent to Montreal for repair.
