First, as a PM, I'd like to keep the current PM upgrade at the time of booking. As for whether GMs and silvers should get their upgrades automatically or have to call and request it is something that I haven't given much thought to. I know that for a GM to always be in a position to call at 72 hours is a bit of a pain. I know I used to call from lines at Disney World, and from the middle of nowhere driving through some western states. What would be nice is if you could put the upgrade on request so that if it were available at 72 hours, then it would simply happen without needing to call again.
