In 1989, my family (flying non-rev) was stuck in AKL after a CO747 had an engine mechanical. CO eventually flew out another plane, but many of us non-revs were out of luck and the other airlines were full. Two days later, the original plane was fixed, and was to be dead-headed back to HNL to put it back in position. I don't know the exact number, but all that was on the plane was the flight crew, with some of the FA's in plain street clothes, our family (5 of us), and a couple other people. The original meals were still on the plane, so perishables were out, but we could snack on everything else, self-service style and just run around the plane. I had just turned 18 and was interested in becoming a pilot, so the pilots let me join them in the cockpit for awhile. Great flight!
