So I did PHT one night, GHT two nights, and finally PHT one night.

Lunch at the Park Hyatt NY Grill was everything and more for just 4000 Yen (less than $35). With prices at the hotel (600-800 Yen for a soda) I would have never tried this on my own. They had no seating available but I actually enjoyed sitting at the bar better and watching them prepare the meals. The appetizer buffet was outstanding and the steak entree was wonderful. Even the desert buffet was top notch. Adding a drink such as a glass of wine would have cost over half the price of the lunch. We ordered water and they kept on refilling it constantly. Chef mentioned to someone else that this is one the best values in Tokyo because others do a similar thing for a little less (3000 Yen) but they are not nearly as fancy and elaborate.

Our first day at the Park Hyatt they greeted us on arrival and took us up personally from the front door to our room. The second time they were not nearly as nice and formal. I think the personalized greeting is a one shot deal the first time you go there. Spa was a great benefit for Diamonds but I cannot believe that those Japanese businessmen pay $35 every time they go in. They upgraded us to a Park Deluxe. Not huge but decent decor similar to other Park Hyatt’s.

Went to Grand Hyatt and was very impressed with the Grand Club staff. They assisted us from beginning to end with every request. The food was OK. Very light in my opinion, not enough Asian and the exact same on both nights we were there. Alcohol was free with a limited choice of liquor and decent self serve wine and champagne. They seem to get a few high profile and high maintenance Japanese guests who get the royal treatment. Some kind of celebrity or maybe they are paying the rack rate.

We enjoyed the area around Shinjuku Station better than Roppogni Hills except for being harassed about strip clubs at every corner. There were dining deals to be found in that area. Amazing the range of prices you can pay for the same dish. Watch out for the popcorn service trick. Japanese seem really into popcorn for some reason. I walked underground all the way from Shinjuku to right next to the Park Hyatt (Washington Hotel) but very hard to find. Just follow the signs towards the Metropolitan Government Building but exit at the Washington Hotel.

If I had to choose I liked the Grand Hyatt (Club staff, lounge) but would consider the Park Hyatt (NY Grill, Spa). Why Tokyo built there airport so far from the city I will never figure out.
