I have driven a manual BMW for over five years; I hate the manual transmission in city traffic, but I liked it driving through the alps.

Meanwhile I rent cars very frequently; if I know, it's city traffic all the day, I try to get an automatic, if is a nice route, I prefer a car with a powerful engine with a manual transmission. Honestly, there are cars (e.g. Alfa Romeo) I would never drive with a automatic, but I prefer automatic or tiptronic over a manual tranmission.

And you should learn on a car with a stick
