I've done EWR-SJU roundtrip only once...but got the u/g both ways, both times on 757-200, one with BF, one without (last July though, so not exactly peak travel season to the caribbean). If you're going during the World Baseball Classic, there might be more elites on the aircraft traveling to games there, or more paid F. Best of luck with the upgrade.
