I'm sitting in AUS right now, and virtually every flight is offering bumps. A GA said it's due to every elementary, middle, and high school plus 5 colleges being off for spring break. To make matters even more fun, they had to totally cancel the 8:52 AUS-DFW flight, so they have an entire planeload of people trying to get on flights that were overbooked to start with. They're flying in a 757 to do a special 4 pm AUS-DFW flight to accommodate everyone.

I took a $500 bump offer to get off the first leg of my AUS-SJC-SEA itinerary this morning. (My upgrade hadn't cleared -- first time since after Thanksgiving.) They were pretty desparate for volunteers. It started off at $300, went to $400 shortly before boarding started, and then up to $500 when they still had two desparate women trying to get on the flight at the end of boarding.

I'm rebooked on that special 4 pm departure to DFW connecting to SEA. It looks like my DFW-SEA flight is overbooked as well (showing 0's across the board), so I'm hoping for a double bump

A bit of an inconvenience, as I was going to pick up clean clothes for the week from my car in SJC, but $500 is $500

Good luck to anyone else out there playing the bump game!
