Usually after I buy my ticket I go into ‘hibernation mode’ and keep myself from trying to look up my same flight at a later date to see if the price went up or down. Its nerve racking to think that if you just waited a bit longer you could’ve gotten it for a lot cheaper so this time it may be best to stop looking at prices after you already booked.
It’s not like there’s much you can do for a better deal anyway after the fact, and with the die-hard United fans here, you probably not going to get much sympathy.
Leaving aside the particulars of OP's case, hasn't UA had "low fare guarantees" that allow one to "readjust" if the fare drops after time of purchase? I thought there had been discussion of such in previous threads, but never knew the details. What is on united.com about a "low fare guarantee" is not much, limited as it is to fares found and purchased through the website and "protects" one only intra-day, not for any length of time beyond 24 hours.
