While in the Admirals Club I had an animated and enjoyable discussion with someone going to Sydney so I lost track of time. When I looked at my watch it was boarding time and as I had 10A on the 757, I needed good overhead space for both my bags. I didn't recheck the departure monitors and when I got to gate 42, there was a 757 boarding so thinking it odd they'd boarded early (but not unheard of) I skipped to the front of the line. Despite the machine saying "Invalid Flight - See Agent" the agent manually entered me in and I didn't think anything of it.
After sitting in my seat for 5 minutes, someone wearing a Yankees hat sat next to me. I remarked to her "that's a dangerous hat to wear to Boston" to which she looked at me as if I was crazy. When I repeated the comment, she informed me I was on the Miami flight. Luckily, I gathered my things quickly (they were above row 14) and ran over to gate 40, the new Boston gate. Thankfully, I made the flight and the only negative result was I had to gate check a bag. Still, this says a lot for LAX Agents as well as how even though you may fly 56,000 miles a year, you can still be really dumb.
how about you just pay attention and read the signs? I guess people want everything done for them these days.
