We have done DXB-MRU for the past two years and aren't interested in doing it again but thanks for the suggestion. If JNB doesn't work, is it possible to include both SEZ and MLE on the RTW fare without buying a separate tix SEZ to MLE on another carrier?

Thanks for the help.
Hey,

No it is not a flight number thing. JNB is not one of the cities that you can backtrack from. You cannot fly DXB-JNB-DXB because it is backtracking, and there is no other way to get to / from JNB.

The following cities do allow a backtrack:

7-BACKTRACKING IS WAIVED AND TWO TRANSIT MAY OCCUR
IN DXB WHEN TRAVEL IS VIA EK TO/FROM DMM/RUH/JED
/MCT/DOH/KWI/AMM/BOM/DEL/MAA/COK/HYD/KHI/LHE/PEW
/ISB/DAC/MLE/CMB/CAI/KRT/MRU.
Flying DXB-SEZ-DXB-MLE-DXB should be fine. SEZ is exactly south of Dubai so you are not going East or West

You can also backtrack Dubai - Male - Dubai.
