Repainting these planes with a new design is an expense that really isn't necessary, is it ? I would much rather see the $$$ put on the inside where the passengers can feel it.
My understanding is that planes normally get repainted every few years when they go in for a D-Check. Typically when airlines introduce a new livery, they don't apply it until the aircraft is due for a repaint anyway. Unless the new livery costs more to apply than the old one, it shouldn't affect the airline's costs.
