Snus is known as "dip" in the U.S., which is a much bigger market than Sweden, even though Sweden uses four times as much per capita. The only three signficant markets in the world are really USA, Sweden and Norway due to this strange EU ban.

Sometimes it is referred to as "wet snuff" but I strongly associate snuff with something you put up your nose.

The classic image of a snus using athlete is Glenn Stromberg circa 1989 being interviewed after a game with a massive bulge under his upper lip and the juicy brown lump covering the upper half of his front teeth. The American users put it less conspicuously in the side of the mouth in the lower lip. This, I have been told, generates saliva and the need to spit more than the Swedish method.

Using "dip" is strictly low class in the US but it has become more socially acceptable in Sweden. But historically terms like "snusgubbe" evolved for a reason.
