Jet Lands in L.A. As Engine Fails

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- An engine failed on a Delta Air Lines jetliner shortly after takeoff Tuesday, forcing an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport, an airport spokesman said.

The Boeing 757 bound for Atlanta with 167 passengers landed safely. No one was hurt.

The twin-engine jet had just taken off from Orange County's John Wayne International Airport when the pilot reported an engine had failed, Los Angeles airport spokesman Tom Winfrey said.

A Delta spokesman did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
