If you own one of these, I'm sure you know that either Shure or Entymotics will give you superior sound to just about any noise-cancelling earphones. However, these are IN THE EAR headphones, and may be less than totally comfortable.
I bought a pair of Shure E3c's and although I was able to get a good seal, they were uncomfortable enough that I wanted to take them out after a few minutes.
Others had mentioned that custom molds are the most comfortable, but expensive. But no one here has seemed to have any experience with them.
Well, my pair just arrived yesterday, and I've gotta say that they are GREAT, and WELL WORTH the cost!!! If you're not happy with the supplied ear pieces, then consider custom molds.
Actually, the hassle is worse than the cost. I called Sensaphone
http://www.sensaphonics.com/prod_shure_sleeve.html and
http://www.sensaphonics.com/ordering.html (details on how to order are there) and they gave me the name of a local audiologist who would make the molds. I made an appt. Cost me $30 for the castings. Just took a few minutes and I walked out with them and a box to send them to Sensaphone. Sensaphone charged me $100 for the molds plus $6 shipping. But they're not too quick...took about a month.
Was it worth it? $136 and a month's time? YOU BET IT WAS!!! Like I said, I got a good seal with the supplied ear pieces, but they were uncomfortable. My new custom ear pieces are UNBELIEVABLY COMFORTABLE!!! They're made of silicone, and i could wear them indefiniteyl
So, if you're happy with the supplied ear pieces, then stick with them. However, if they're uncomfortable, GO FOR THE CUSTOM EAR MOLDS!!! They make your Shure/Entymotics purchase worthwhile. Look, if you're gonna spend $100 to $500 for earphones, they might as well be comfortable!
