Does "A" inventory (segment upgrades) take precedence over "G?" Is DL likely to open up some "G" inventory at the 72 hr. window? Since I'm only FO, I'd have to wait until the 24 hr. window to use one of my segment upgrades, which I don't think I should have to do, assuming "A" inventory is still available then.</font>
Last year as a GM, I was waitlisted for "G" 60 days out as well as "V", at the 72-hour mark, on a ATL-LAX flight. When I arrived at ATL, I was still waitlisted for both. I had to wait at the gate until my name was called. I glanced at my boarding pass and it indicated that I had cleared a seat from "V" inventory.
As to priority between the two inventories, I can only speculate that they open up more "V" seats than "G" seats closer to departure because only Medallions can access "V" inventory, while traveling companions using NAMUs, PMUs, and general members using mileage upgrades have access to "G."
In any event, at the 24-hour mark, call to see if your request for a "G" seat has cleared; if not, ask for a "V" seat. If not available, request placement on the waitlist. You should also bear in mind that upgrades on flights to/from ATL from are usually difficult for FOs.
