Kicking for 5 hours? I wouldn't accept it for 5 minutes. I would request that the parent to switch seats with the child. I usually don't have a problem after that. If a parent were to get rude, I would get the FA to handle it. I've never had to experience a flight with a kicker of any age behind me.
